Microsoft has developed a new compact AI model called Mu that can automatically adjust Windows 11 settings based on user needs, according to Windows Central citing internal sources.
Mu is a lightweight neural network that operates locally on devices without requiring constant cloud connectivity. It analyzes user behavior and optimizes:
System settings (power consumption, performance, notifications)
Background processes (management of resource-intensive applications)
Personalization (theme selection, operating modes, privacy settings)
Unlike large cloud-based AI systems like Copilot, Mu operates quickly and doesn't require significant computational power.
Microsoft is betting on hybrid AI - a combination of cloud and local models. While Mu may become a key component of Windows 12, it's currently being tested in Windows 11.
Microsoft hasn't officially announced Mu yet, but insider reports suggest the first features based on this technology may appear in upcoming OS updates.
