Microsoft announced that Windows 10 users will be able to receive free updates under the Extended Support Updates (ESU) program until October 2026, but with one condition—they must enable system settings synchronization with a Microsoft account via the "Windows Backup" app.
Recall that extended support for Windows 10 will officially end on October 14, 2025. Users who cannot or are not ready to upgrade to Windows 11 can opt for a paid subscription to receive security updates under the Extended Support Updates (ESU) program. The subscription costs $30 per year per device. Alternatively, users can redeem it for 1,000 Microsoft Reward points.
Devices can be registered for the Extended Support Updates (ESU) program through a dedicated app, which will be rolled out to Windows 10 users starting July 2025.
It’s important to note that updates under the Extended Support Updates (ESU) program will not include new features, bug fixes, or product technical support.
