Microsoft announced that starting today, new AI-powered features including Recall, Click to Do, and "Enhanced Windows Search" are available on Windows 11 for Copilot+ PCs. These are exclusive features for Copilot+ PCs as they require a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) with at least 40 TOPS performance.
The new features were added in the optional April 2025 cumulative update for Windows 11 version 24H2. They will also be included in the mandatory May 2025 monthly cumulative update. Over the next month, Microsoft will gradually enable these features for users through Controlled Feature Rollout (CFR).
The Recall feature automatically captures screenshots, analyzes content, and enables semantic search to find any information users have previously seen on their PC.
If you browsed web pages about dinosaurs days ago but can't remember their names, you could query "show me the dinosaur web pages I viewed days ago" and AI Explorer will find them. Had a conversation about the Fallout series but can't recall who with or in which app? Search "find my conversations about the Fallout series" and AI Explorer will locate them in its memory, including when these conversations occurred.
Recall's advantage is enabling natural language content searches without strict query requirements. Need to find a document colleague Bob sent in Slack? Simply search "find that file Bob sent me in Slack weeks ago" and Recall will display results based on captured and processed information.
Originally slated for June 2024 release, security concerns forced Microsoft to rework Recall. All collected data now resides in an isolated VBS Enclave encrypted environment with Windows Hello authentication. Data is stored and processed locally - Recall doesn't use cloud services or share data with Microsoft or third parties.
Disabled by default, users must explicitly enable Recall to begin using it. You can also completely remove Recall via "Turn Windows features on or off".
Click to Do enables quick actions with on-screen text or images, reducing app switching needs.
With Click to Do, you can copy text/images to clipboard, summarize text, or rewrite content. The tool also removes objects from images, including within PDF files.
Access Click to Do multiple ways:
Image actions are available on all Copilot+ PCs. Text actions currently only work on Snapdragon X ARM processors, with AMD Ryzen and Intel support coming in upcoming months.
Windows 11 now features AI-enhanced search to simplify finding documents, photos, and settings. This Copilot+ PC exclusive requires a 40+ TOPS NPU.
The key difference is searching files, images, and settings using natural language descriptions rather than exact names or keywords. Enhanced search understands contextual meaning, with all AI processing occurring locally.
Enhanced Windows Search integrates with File Explorer, taskbar search, and Settings app.
