Microsoft has confirmed that its Family Safety parental control service is mistakenly blocking Google Chrome and other third-party web browsers on Windows operating systems. This service allows parents to monitor and manage their children's activities on computers and smartphones, offering features like screen time management, content filtering, app controls, and location tracking.
The issue stems from the web filtering tool that lets children request parental approval for using alternative browsers. Due to a system error, it's blocking updated versions of previously approved browsers. Furthermore, when the "Activity Reporting" feature is disabled in Family Safety settings, the system forcibly closes browsers instead of sending approval requests.
Microsoft is currently working on a fix. As a temporary solution, they recommend enabling the "Activity Reporting" feature to receive access permission requests. The problem affects devices running Windows 10 22H2, Windows 11 22H2, and newer versions.
