In February, Microsoft introduced a new artificial intelligence model called Muse AI, capable of generating gameplay in real-time. It was noted that Muse AI can understand 3D game worlds, physics, and respond to player actions, generating diverse and consistent gameplay.
Now users can access a technical demo of Quake II, entirely generated by AI. The game runs in a web browser and provides access to a very basic Quake II level with blurry enemies and limited world interaction. The play session has a time limit. You can try the tech demo at copilot.microsoft.com.
It's important to note that with this project, Microsoft aims to showcase the technology's potential and promise. There's no talk yet about creating full-fledged products based on Muse AI.
The Quake II tech demo runs at 640×360 resolution with fairly acceptable frame rates. In February, the company stated that Muse AI could generate gameplay at 300×180 resolution with 10 frames per second.
The company continues to position Muse AI as a developer tool that could assist in game prototyping. Additionally, Microsoft is exploring using AI to enhance and adapt classic games like Quake II for modern hardware.
