Microsoft and The Coalition studio have announced Gears of War: Reloaded — a remaster of the cult shooter originally released in 2006. The re-release coincides with the upcoming 20th anniversary of the franchise and aims to introduce a new generation of players to the story of Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad, while also providing veterans with the best way to revisit the classic on modern hardware.

The game is being developed by The Coalition in partnership with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief. It will include all content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, including the additional campaign chapter, all multiplayer maps and modes, as well as the full set of classic characters and cosmetic items unlockable through progression.

The developers have promised the following technical improvements:

  • 4K resolution

  • 60 FPS in the campaign

  • 120 FPS in multiplayer

  • HDR support,

  • Dolby Vision and 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos / 3D Spatial Audio support

  • Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support

  • Completely overhauled 4K textures and assets

  • Improved visual effects, shadows, and reflections

  • No loading screens during campaign gameplay

Gears of War: Reloaded will release on August 26, 2025, for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. This marks the franchise's first game to be available on Sony's gaming consoles.

Gears of War: Reloaded will be priced at $39.99 and will be included in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions on launch day. Players who purchased Gears of War: Ultimate Edition prior to the remaster's announcement will receive the game for free. A key to activate Gears of War: Reloaded will be sent via private messages through the Xbox platform before the game's release.

It is noted that the game will support full cross-play between all platforms without requiring a Microsoft account. However, if you wish to transfer your campaign and multiplayer progress between different devices, you will still need a Microsoft account.
