Microsoft has announced new layoffs affecting over 6,000 employees worldwide, representing approximately 3% of its total workforce. This marks the company's largest workforce reduction since 2023 when 10,000 employees were let go. The new round of cuts will impact nearly all Microsoft divisions.
"We're continuing to implement the organizational changes needed to best position the company in a rapidly evolving market," Microsoft spokesperson Pete Wootton told The Verge.
Notably, Microsoft CFO Amy Hood hinted at plans to streamline management structures several weeks ago. "We remain focused on building high-performing teams and increasing our agility by reducing management layers with fewer managers," Hood stated.
Earlier this year, Microsoft also began dismissing employees based on productivity metrics, resulting in hundreds of job losses.
