Microsoft has revealed new features in the Microsoft Store app store

Microsoft Store

Microsoft has shared details about upcoming innovations for the Microsoft Store on Windows, including a personalized homepage, Copilot integration, search improvements, and performance enhancements. The company notes that over 250 million people use the store monthly.

Personalized Homepage

The Microsoft Store homepage will now showcase content tailored to individual users - whether games, productivity apps, or developer tools. Recommendations will be based on recent activity, regional trends, and current discounts. Users will see these changes in coming weeks. Personalized recommendations can be disabled in app settings.

Enhanced Search

Microsoft has significantly improved search functionality. The new algorithm better understands user intent, considers signals like app updates and ratings, and handles language nuances - delivering more accurate and relevant results.

Product pages now feature a Copilot AI assistant (button in lower right). Copilot can answer questions about apps or compare two products. Currently available only to U.S. users.

Product pages also gained a "Discover More" section for similar apps, plus special badges indicating AI features or Copilot+ PC optimization.

Deeper Windows Integration

  1. Installing apps from Windows Search. You can now type an app name in the taskbar search box and install it directly from results (if available in Microsoft Store) without opening the Store app.
  2. App recommendations for opening files. When encountering an unassociated file type, the "Open With" dialog now suggests relevant Store apps (default programs still appear first). Currently testing with Insiders in U.S. and China.

Performance Improvements

Six months of optimization work has doubled Microsoft Store launch speed and improved app installation reliability.

Other Changes

  • Option to install individual game components
  • Faster app rating dialogs
  • Last update dates now shown on product pages
