Just a few days remain until Microsoft's presentation, which is expected to unveil compact models of the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. Initial rumors about these devices emerged in early 2025, and since then we've received several confirmations that they're indeed preparing for market launch. The official presentation will take place on May 6, 2025.
Ahead of this event, German portal WinFuture has published marketing images and some technical specifications of the new devices. This article focuses on the 12-inch Surface Pro tablet, while our companion article covers details about the 13-inch Surface Laptop.
Starting with the exterior, the 12-inch Surface Pro will distinguish itself from larger models with more rounded corners and a gently curved back panel. The device features a slim metal chassis measuring just 7.8mm thick and includes the signature kickstand that extends to 165 degrees.
The compact Surface Pro will feature a 12-inch PixelSense Flow LCD panel. While it's unclear if the display supports 120Hz refresh rate, it will maintain compatibility with both Surface Pen and Surface Pen Slim styluses.
At its core will be the octa-core ARM processor Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 clocked up to 3.4GHz, featuring an integrated NPU for AI acceleration. The tablet will offer configurations with up to 16GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB UFS storage.
Marketing materials suggest the 12-inch Surface Pro will deliver up to 16 hours of local video playback on a single charge.
The device features just two USB-C 3.2 ports, with only one supporting charging. The absence of other ports means users will need USB-C adapters or wireless headphones for audio.
The package won't include a power adapter, as Microsoft expects users to charge the tablet with any USB Power Delivery charger rated at least 27W.
The 12-inch Surface Pro will be available in violet, blue ("Ocean"), and gray ("Slate"/"Platinum") color options. The detachable Surface Type Cover will be sold separately in matching colors.
Current information doesn't include pricing or exact release dates. These details will likely be announced during the May 6, 2025 presentation.
