German portal WinFuture has also published marketing images and additional details about the compact 13-inch Surface Laptop, set to be unveiled on May 6, 2025. For information about the 12-inch Surface Pro, see our companion article here.

Affordable Laptop with PixelSense Display

The 13-inch Surface Laptop will succeed the Surface Laptop Go series, positioned as a more budget-friendly alternative to flagship 13.8-inch and 15-inch models.

Like its larger counterparts, the compact Surface Laptop will feature a touch-enabled PixelSense LCD display with Surface Pen support. However, it will have a standard 60Hz refresh rate typical of budget notebooks.

Redesigned Aesthetics

The device features noticeable design changes. The compact Surface Laptop's chassis has become significantly more rounded compared to predecessors. The angular elements of previous Surface generations are gone, though some distinctive traits remain to maintain Microsoft's hardware identity.

The laptop sports relatively thin bezels, an island-style keyboard, and glass touchpad. A fingerprint reader for Windows Hello authentication sits in the keyboard's top-right corner.

Color options include violet, light blue ("Ocean"), and gray ("Slate"/"Platinum").

The chassis measures just 15.5mm thick.

Technical Specifications

The 13-inch Surface Laptop runs on an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus ARM processor, likely the X1P-42-100 model clocked up to 3.4GHz. Benchmark data suggests configurations with 16GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB UFS storage.

Microsoft appears to have omitted the proprietary Surface Connect port. The device will feature just two USB-C 3.2 ports, one full-size USB-A port, and a combo audio jack. There's no memory card slot or USB 4.0 support.

5G cellular models haven't been confirmed.

Battery Life

Marketing materials claim up to 23 hours of local video playback on a single charge.

Like the compact Surface Pro, no power adapter will be included. The device charges via USB-C using any USB Power Delivery adapter rated at least 27W.

Availability

Pricing and exact release dates remain unknown. These details will likely be announced during the official presentation on May 6, 2025.
