The "Snipping Tool" app for Windows 11 now supports exporting videos as GIF

Microsoft has released an update for the Snipping Tool (version 11.2505.21.0) for Windows 11 Insiders using Dev and Canary channel builds.

This update introduces GIF export functionality for screen recordings, designed to boost productivity and transform short clips into easily shareable moments.

To try the feature:

  1. Open Snipping Tool via Win + Shift + S or from the Start menu
  2. Switch to screen recording mode
  3. Capture your desired clip
  4. Click the new GIF export button in the preview window toolbar

The tool then prompts you to select GIF quality (Low or High) before saving to file or copying to clipboard.

Note: GIF export is limited to videos under 30 seconds. Longer recordings will automatically truncate to the first 30 seconds during export.
