Windows 11
Content:
Microsoft has released an optional cumulative update KB5060826 (builds 22621.5549 and 22631.5549) for Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2, delivering various bug fixes and improvements.
The following new features are not yet available to all Insiders as they're being deployed in phases.
- Default Apps:
Microsoft is implementing minor modifications to the default browser selection interface for users in the European Economic Area (EEA).
- The system now automatically assigns additional registered file types and protocols to newly set default browsers.
- New default browsers will be automatically pinned to both the taskbar and Start menu unless these options are manually deselected.
- Added a dedicated button for quick default PDF viewer assignment when supported by the browser.
- PC Migration:
- Microsoft has initiated deployment of a new PC-to-PC data transfer capability. Users will encounter a redesigned start page and device pairing interface in Windows Backup, providing a preview of upcoming functionality. Future builds will enable file and settings migration during initial PC setup. This feature is rolling out incrementally.
- Share Feature:
- The Share dialog now displays a content preview before sharing web links or materials.
- Windows Setup:
- Administrators can now configure whether new devices should install critical updates during initial Out-of-Box-Experience (OOBE) setup.
- Auditing:
- Resolved an issue where privilege use auditing generated excessive security event logs, potentially filling system drives and preventing user logins.
- Authentication:
- Fixed an authentication issue affecting domain-joined Windows 11 22H2/23H2 devices attempting to update account passwords on Windows Server 2025 domain controllers, which could disrupt trust relationships.
- Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA):
- Updated COSA profiles for certain mobile operators.
- Remote Desktop:
- Addressed an issue requiring device reboot to establish Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) connections.
- File Sharing:
- Fixed a stability issue affecting workstations and servers when accessing SMB shared resources.
- Performance:
- Corrected an issue where unused language packs and optional Features on Demand (FOD) weren't completely removed, unnecessarily consuming disk space and prolonging update installation.
- Windows Shell:
- Resolved an unresponsive state that could occur in kiosk mode devices following administrative lock/unlock sequences.
- Windows Hello:
- Fixed a certificate management issue preventing automatic renewal of expiring certificates in Windows Hello for Business.
- Windows Search:
- Improved performance for cases where the Search interface took over 10 seconds to become responsive.
Happy updating!
