Microsoft has confirmed error 0x80240069 when booting Windows 11 24H2 via WSUS

Windows 11

Microsoft confirmed that after installing the KB5055528 cumulative update from April 8, 2025, Windows 11 versions 22H2 and 23H2 experience an issue preventing the download of the 24H2 version update via Windows Server Updates Services (WSUS).

Reports indicate that the update download either fails to start or cannot complete properly. This results in error code 0×80240069, and the update log displays a message similar to: "The wuauserv service has stopped unexpectedly."

Note that WSUS is intended for enterprise environments, so regular users are unlikely to encounter this issue. Microsoft engineers are investigating the causes of the problem.

As a temporary solution, Microsoft suggests making registry changes. This information was published by Windows Latest.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FeatureManagement\Overrides\8\3000950414]"EnabledState"=dword:00000001"EnabledStateOptions"=dword:00000000"Variant"=dword:00000000"VariantPayload"=dword:00000000

Alternatively, you can simply wait for the next cumulative update for Windows 11, which will be released on May 13, 2025. This update will likely include fixes for the issue.
