Microsoft has released new Windows 11 preview builds (version 23H2) numbered 22631.5409 (KB5058502) for Windows Insider Program participants in the Release Preview channel.
Full build number: 10.0.22631.5409.ni_release_svc_prod2.250509-1806.
- Copilot:
- You can now open Copilot for Windows using the Win + C shortcut. You can modify this key assignment anytime via the existing "Customize Copilot keyboard key" option in Settings > Personalization > Text Input. Enterprise customers can find additional information on the official website.
- To start a conversation with Copilot for Windows, hold the Copilot key or Win + C for two seconds. Press Esc or remain silent for a few seconds to end the session. You can also use Alt + Space to talk with Copilot in Windows, enabling voice interaction for instant responses while working.
- Taskbar Search:
- Updated web search for European Economic Area (EEA) users with improved third-party search engine support, making search engine selection easier.
- Settings:
- Microsoft has simplified finding answers to common PC questions with a dedicated FAQ section at Settings > System > About, containing useful system configuration, performance, and compatibility information.
- Taskbar:
- Administrators can now allow users to unpin specific pinned applications, preventing them from being repinned during the next policy update cycle. Configure using the PinGeneration option. Details available here.
- Voice Access:
- Fixed an issue where Voice Access could hang with a "working on it" message during text dictation.
- Widgets:
- You can now customize the Weather widget on the lock screen. Go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen and click "Customize widget" in the Weather widget's additional options. More widget customization options coming later.
- Share Feature:
- The Share dialog now includes quick image editing options like cropping, rotating, and applying filters before sending.
- When dragging local files from File Explorer or desktop, a special area appears at the top showing apps to share with. Selecting "More" (...) opens the traditional Share dialog.
- Input:
- Fixed an issue preventing voice typing from launching with the touch keyboard in narrow Simplified Chinese layout.
- Fixed a problem where pressing page navigation buttons in the touch keyboard's symbol panel could insert characters into password fields.
- Blue Screen of Death (BSOD):
- Fixed an issue causing BSOD on some devices.
- HoloLens:
- Resolved an issue where the HoloCamera app couldn't save images on HoloLens due to incorrect folder access permissions affecting Mixed Reality Capture functionality.
- Memory Leak:
- Fixed an input service issue causing memory usage growth, potentially affecting performance in multi-user, multilingual, and Remote Desktop scenarios.
- Country and Operator Settings Asset (COSA):
- Updated COSA profiles for select mobile operators.
- Windows Shell:
- Fixed an issue causing File Explorer and Start menu failures when devices were connected to AAD accounts.
- Windows Update:
- Resolved WSUS upgrade issues to Windows 11 version 24H2 where downloads would fail to start/complete properly, causing error 0×80240069 with messages like "wuauserv service stopped unexpectedly" in update logs.
