Instruction: Enable Copilot on a new tab page in Edge Canary

Microsoft Edge/Machine intelligence

A few days ago we reported that Microsoft Edge on the Canary channel introduced a redesigned new tab page featuring the Copilot AI assistant at its center. While this change isn't available to all users yet, you can force-enable it if you want to try it out now.

Instructions

To activate the "Copilot Search" feature on the new tab page in Edge Canary, follow these steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Edge Canary and update to the latest version (137.0.3281.0 or higher).
  2. Navigate to edge://flags/#edge-ntp-composer in the address bar and set the parameter to "Enabled".
  3. Do the same for edge://flags/#edge-ntp-composer-chat-ranking, edge://flags/#edge-ntp-composer-focus, and edge://flags/#edge-ntp-composer-use-copilot-search.
  4. Click the "Restart" button to reload Edge and apply the enabled parameters.

After activating "Copilot Search", you'll see the Copilot interface on the new tab page with these search mode options:

  • Default: Traditional search like in the regular address/search bar, URL navigation, and Copilot chat suggestions.
  • Search and Navigate: More advanced search using Copilot.
  • Chat: Direct chat with Copilot.
