Microsoft Edge

Microsoft has begun rolling out the stable version of Microsoft Edge 136 (136.0.3240.50), which includes several new features, improvements, and bug fixes.

Updates

  • Microsoft Edge for Business offers seamless native integration with existing security solutions through Edge for Business connectors, enhancing device trust, reporting capabilities, and data loss prevention. Administrators can easily deploy, configure, and manage connectors via Edge Management Service. Edge for Business supports a wide range of security vendors, providing familiar controls and capabilities for administrators.
  • Redesigned Work Feed on Edge's new tab page. The Work Feed, available on Edge's new tab page for enterprise customers with Microsoft 365 subscriptions, has received several changes and improvements. The focus has shifted more toward productivity and Microsoft 365 patterns.
Starting mid-April 2025, users will see the updated My Feed interface on the enterprise new tab page. You'll no longer be able to view network content and activity, but will gain quick access to recently used Microsoft 365 documents, newly created SharePoint sites, upcoming Outlook events, Microsoft 365 apps, and To-Do tasks.
Existing new tab page management policies remain unchanged. Additional details can be found here: Microsoft Edge for Business new tab page and Work Feed in Microsoft Edge.
  • Profile button on toolbar. To maximize tab title visibility, Microsoft has moved the profile avatar to the toolbar. By default, only the icon will display without text. Administrators can use the ProfileTypeInProfileButtonEnabled policy to control text display for work/school profiles.
Companies with custom browser branding through Edge Management Service will see this change starting with version 136.0.3240.45+.
  • Updated Microsoft Edge update notifications. Available Edge updates now appear as an icon in the "Settings and more" menu ("..." on the toolbar).
  • Microsoft has made two improvements to the "Settings and more" menu ("..." on the toolbar). The first change makes browser update availability more noticeable. The second change splits the "Basic browser settings" into two separate menu items: "Performance" and "Secure network". Both will appear in the "Settings and more" menu. These changes are rolling out gradually.
  • New Password Manager policy. The PasswordExportEnabled policy lets administrators control whether the "Export passwords" button appears on edge://wallet/passwords. When disabled, this prevents password exports.
  • HTTPS policy updates. The AutomaticHttpsDefault policy is deprecated starting with Edge 136 and will be removed in Edge 139. It's replaced by the new HttpsUpgradesEnabled policy available in Edge 136.
  • Secure password deployment in Edge Management Service. This feature allows administrators to deploy encrypted shared passwords to user groups, enabling seamless website logins without revealing actual passwords. This reduces unauthorized access risks and improves organizational security.

Note: This feature is in public preview. Access it by selecting the required browser version in Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

  • Highlighting key settings and improved navigation in Settings. Three navigation improvements help users find browser settings more efficiently (functionality remains unchanged):
    • Added quick access to frequently used settings on the main Settings page, with direct links to their locations
    • Simplified navigation for pages with many items (Privacy, Appearance, Cookies, System) via quick-access buttons
    • Added clickable table of contents for pages with numerous settings
  • Extensions in Settings. An "Extensions" section was added to the navigation menu for quick access to extension management. Settings search now includes installed extensions.
This change is rolling out gradually.
  • Edge Management Service monitoring provides analytics about managed Edge instances and suggests actionable insights. For outdated versions, you can easily schedule updates or notify users to update without disrupting workflows.
