Windows 11 insiders have access to new versions of Paint, Scissors and Notepad apps

Windows 11

Microsoft has begun rolling out updated versions of Paint, Snipping Tool, and Notepad for Windows 11 Insiders on Dev and Canary channels. Each app received several useful new features, with the expected AI-powered additions.

Paint (version 11.2504.451.0)

The app introduces "Sticker Creator" - an AI-powered feature that generates stickers from text prompts.

To use it:

  1. Select "Sticker Creator" in the Copilot menu
  2. Enter a description (e.g., "cat wearing sunglasses")
  3. Click "Generate"
The tool produces multiple sticker variations that can be:
  • Placed directly on canvas
  • Copied to other apps
  • Saved as files
Recent creations appear in the new "Stickers" toolbar section.

The update also adds "Object Selection" - an AI tool that isolates image elements for editing. Click the toolbar button and highlight target elements to modify them separately.

Note: "Sticker Creator" and "Object Selection" require Copilot+ PCs. Sticker creation also needs Microsoft account login.

The update includes a welcome screen highlighting new features, accessible anytime via the megaphone icon in the top-right corner.

Snipping Tool (version 11.2504.38.0)

The new "Perfect Screenshot" AI feature captures screen content without requiring manual cropping:

  1. Open the tool (app or Win+Shift+S)
  2. Select rectangular capture mode
  3. Click "Perfect Screenshot" or hold Ctrl while selecting
  4. Adjust the capture area before confirming

The update also adds a color picker tool supporting HEX, RGB, and HSL formats. Use mouse wheel or Ctrl++/Ctrl+- for precision.

Notepad (version 11.2504.46.0)

The update introduces AI text generation ("Write" function):

  1. Position cursor or select text
  2. Right-click → "Write" or press Ctrl+Q
  3. Enter instructions and submit
  4. Choose "Keep text" or "Discard"

Requires Microsoft account login. Microsoft 365 subscribers (Personal/Family/Enterprise/Copilot Pro) can use AI credits for text generation.
